Leadville, Colorado

After a full breakfast in Winter Park, Colorado, I started the next phase of my road trip - the long drive on I-70 to Utah and the Mighty Five. On the way to my first planned stop, Colorado National Monument, on the suggestion of the person manning a Colorado visitor center, I took unplanned detour to Leadville, Colorado, an old mining town which enjoys an historic distinction for its preserved down town buildings and its place in Colorado mining history.

My first stop was the National Mining Hall of Fame and Museum which had some interesting exhibits on mining. I probably would have done well enough to skip the museum, but oh well. After touring the museum, I took a walking tour of Harrison Avenue, the main drag of the Leadville, and snapped some photos of the historic buildings lining the avenue and the Temple Israel synagogue, which was located a block away.
