Grand Lake, Colorado

My second day in Rocky Mountain National Park was intended to be a full day of driving the Trail Ridge Road. When I finished driving the full length of the Trail Ridge Road, I exited Rocky Mountain National Park and arrived in the charming, little town of Grand Lake, Colorado, which fronts on Grand Lake.  Grand Lake is also home to the historic Grand Lake Lodge, which was built in the 1920s. By comparison with its sister park entry town, Grand Lake is much smaller than Estes Park, with fewer restaurants and fewer places to stay.

After I parked the car, I walked the boardwalk of Grand Avenue, the main drag of the town, checking out the tourist shops, the lake front, and a place to have dinner. I elected to have barbecue again, this time chicken, with ice cream for dessert.

After dinner, I drove up to Grand Lake Lodge to see what all the fuss was about. It was a nice place and I would consider staying there on my next visit to Rocky Mountain. I then headed to Winter Park for the hotel.
