Glen Canyon Dam

My next stop on the road to Cortez, Colorado, was Glen Canyon Dam, which was built from 1956 to 1966 and forms Lake Powell. The dam's visitor center was closed, but I was able to walk across the bridge to observe the dam and to take some cool photos of the dam. Many years ago I read a very good book about the making of the dam and the consequences of its construction, and I am now glad to have seen it up close and in person.

According to Wikipedia, Glen Canyon Dam became "a catalyst for the modern environmental movement," and was one of the last dams of its size to be built in the United States.

Fun fact: the town of Page, Arizona was essentially founded due to the construction of the dam. Before the dam, there was no town of Page.
Lake Powell is behind me.
