Denver & Rio Grande Railroad and Morrow Point Dam on the Gunnison River

After leaving Black Canyon, I headed east on U.S. Route 50 towards Gunnison and then south on Colorado Route 114 towards Alamosa. On the way, I stopped to check out a train exhibit that was the trestle that once carried trains of the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad into to the Gunnison River canyons. The Denver & Rio Grande Railroad was called the "Scenic Line of the World." Check out the Rudyard Kipling quote in the NPS display. All in all, it was a pretty cool exhibit.

The dam was pretty cool too, one of many built in the west as part of the Colorado River Storage Project, which is in the news lately given the severe drought in the West and the very low water levels in Lake Meade and Lake Powell.
