Day 1: Philadelphia to Richmond, Indiana

The drive from Philadelphia to Richmond, Indiana, was uneventful and a bit boring. The route consisted of essentially a straight line, first on the historic Pa. Turnpike and then west on I-70 (which will figure more prominently in the Colorado portion of the road trip). I made a few stops along the way, and ate my lunch (ham & cheese sandwich) in the car. A total of about 560 miles. I've driven the Pa. Turnpike and this same route (in reverse) many times. In fact, we returned home via I-70 and the Pa. Turnpike on both the Grand Canyon and the Yellowstone Road Trips.

I took these photos at (you guessed it) an Ohio rest stop. Of course, these sorts of markers are typical of what you will encounter on a cross-county road trip - odds and ends, and tidbits of history, some interesting, some not.
