Capitol Reef National Park

The first planned stop for the day was Capitol Reef National Park, the third of the Mighty Five to be visited on this epic road trip. There I checked out some petroglyphs, had a light lunch of blueberries, prosciutto, cheddar cheese, and crackers, washed down with a Mexican Pepsi, drove the scenic drive, and hiked 2 miles into the Capitol Gorge. The hike required a drive down a 2.5 mile unpaved road, but the Outback's AWD held up to the test. In hindsight the drive and the hike probably ate up at least an hour or more of my time, which might have been better spent driving to Bryce Canyon National Park to get there earlier than 6 pm. Live and learn on a road trip! Every day is an adventure!

This is the gorge that I hiked through.
