Bryce Canyon National Park, Day Two - Driving the Park Road

After loading the car before the 11 am checkout, I executed my plan to drive the park's main road from the Lodge to the end at Rainbow Point. There I took in the views and shot a few photos. Then I got in the car and drove back along the main road, stopping at the popular scenic overlooks (Black Birch Canyon, Ponderosa Canyon, Natural Bridge, and Fairview Point) to snap some more photos. At Farview Point, there was even a "hot dawg" lunch truck (a great idea for the National Parks!), but the line was too long and I was anxious to get on the road to Zion so I skipped a hot dog lunch.

Along the way, I met an older couple with New Jersey license plates. Seeing plates from a neighboring state, I struck up a conversation - that's what you do when you are driving alone and are starved for conversation! They were driving back from visiting with their daughter, son-in-law, and grandson in San Diego. We traded some road trip stories and I recommended Colorado National Monument to them as they were planning to drive I-70 back through Colorado.

When I got back to the Lodge area, I had a picnic lunch of a PB&J sandwich and a bottle of milk - a classic road trip lunch fare, as Clare and Conor can well attest from our prior road trips. Then I gassed up the car and headed to Zion National Park, the last of the Mighty Five on my list.
